University of Kelaniya

University of Kelaniya is one of the most prestige universities in Sri Lanka.The University of Kelaniya is its origins in the historical Vidyalankara Pirivena, established in 1875 as a center of study for Buddhist monks.

It is one of the two great central centers of traditional higher resurgence of the country. By establishing modern Universities in Sri Lanka in the 1940s education, announcing the first phase of the national movement and the and 1950s, Vidyalankara Pirivena became Vidyalankara University in 1959, later Vidyalankara Campus of the University of Ceylon in 1972 and, ultimately, the University of Kelaniya in 1978.

University of Kelaniya carries out its' great service to the nations under the guidance from the Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, honorable Aggamaha Saddhammajothika Dhaja, Tripitaka Vagishvaracharya, Upadhyaya Dhurandara, Mahopadaya, Pandith, the most Venerable Welamitiyawe Dharmakirthi Sri Kusala Dhamma Thero and the vice chancellor Professor D. M. Semasinghe.

University of Kelaniya has come a long way towards success from its' beginning. With the faculties for Science, Medicine, Social Sciences and Commerce & Management and a very strong modern language unit University of Kelaniya has become a pioneer in Sri Lankan higher education.
