The most inspired person in my life

There are lot of people who inspire us on improving certain aspects of our lives. I was inspired by lots of people to become the person who I really am today. But the person who most inspired me was my father. But it was not because of his generosity, his kindness or his affection towards me and my sister. He is has a great personality and everyone who works with him loves to work with him. But the most influential factor of his life that inspires me is his motivation.

He was from a very poor family. There was no one for motivate him for education. But he studied well. he has told me lots of his childhood stories like how hard it was to study in that time, the work he had to do and the opportunities and the decisions he made. They all inspired me to be the person I am today. I was motivated by all my friends, family members and etc. But my father had to motivate him self to get him to the position that he is in now. That is what I wanted to be, self motivated and achieve goals like him. So my father was the most inspired person in my life.

The most influential social media

There are lot of social media platforms available for different purposes today. As an example  LinkedIn for professional purposes, WhatsApp for messaging and Instagram for sharing photos. But the most influential social media was, is and for the moment will be Facebook.

The role Facebook playing in social media platforms is massive. Most of the time every other social media platform is intended to achieve one specific purpose, like I mentioned before. But Facebook is a combination between all these necessary components. It offers photo sharing messaging and also
we could follow our favorite topics, persons, events or literally anything to get the recent updates and news from them. I have followed few gaming sites and technological sites that gives me latest updates about the things happen in the world. In Facebook we can follow all the news channels we want and they will easily gives us latest news updates. We can easily contact people not just in the personal capacity but also in the professional capacity too. Every restaurant have a Facebook page that responds quickly, most of the time. It is more easy to contact them via Facebook rather then to call them, sometimes. We can get offer details, prices , locations and we can also make reservations via Facebook. I mean, how cool is that?

Trends in Software Engineering

Software Engineering is defined as the application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the development, operation, and maintenance of software. Since the latest developments of the software field new software trends has become poplar. Following are some of the latest software engineering trends.

Cloud computing

Cloud computing is the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer. Since this is an easier way to share resources and store data, this has become a latest trend.

Android computing

An android computer is a tablet, laptop or desktop computer that runs the Android operating system. Android computing is building applications for those devices. As most people use those devices it has become a trend in software engineering.

Big data

Big data is an extremely large data set that may be analyzed computationally to reveal patterns, trends, and associations, especially relating to human behavior and interactions. After machine learning and Internet of Things has become a thing this technology was more useful and therefore it became a trend.

Open source applications

In general, open source refers to any program whose source code is made available for use or modification as users or other developers see fit. Open source software is usually developed as a public collaboration and made freely available. because of this free and customization feature open source applications have become a trend now.

Happiest moment in my university life

There are lot of happy moments when it comes to the university life. We find friends, we make new memories and some of them are memories for life. There are so many unforgettable moments in my University life but the happiest and the most unforgettable moments I have is our first batch trip.

I enjoy traveling a lot. When our batch mates starts talking about the batch trip I was really interested. But since we took the decision of having a trip at the last moment of the semester we had to quickly arrange the things. Since we did not have lot of time to arrange and most of the girls were not interested this was a guys only trip. Most of the guys participated. We used a small Rosa bus for our transport and it was more than enough for us so we had enough space to do all the crazy things we wanted.

The trip was arranged for spend 2 days around Nuwara Eliya, Badulla area. Since most of our guys were into singing (or they thought) we were singing for the whole 2 days of the trip. We went to see lot of places there like Adisham bungalow, Ambewela farm and few water falls as well. But most we enjoyed was spending time with the batch mates, discussing stuff, making fun of each others outside the university environment. It was the best and happiest moment of my life.

The most enjoyed activity in the PPD program

PPD or Personality Progress Development is a program we used to have in our 1st and 2nd years of University life. It was designed to help us develop our skills and behaviors to match our professional and social environments. We have done many activities in our PPD sessions over the years.  But my favorite activity was the one called "Round-Robin".

Round-robin was a very interesting activity we did few times in our PPD sessions. The way we did it was someone (most of the times it was one of our demonstrators) starts a story and tell the story for a minute and then the next person has to start telling the story from the position where the last person stops using the last word of the last person said. The fun part was the story. Since everyone had very different imaginations the flow of the story gets very interesting over the time. Sometimes the story might start from a guy eating a burger and it will go through an alien invasion, an extinction event, a cartoon character saves the day and someone saying the burger story again. The way this game improved our skills was it challenged our imagination and quick thinking. It also asks us to pay attention when the other person speaks. It was a great activity to do in the class and I really enjoyed it a lot.

My dream trip

Being a gamer I always had a dream trips on my mind that I was hoping to go in my life time. First one is to go watch a Dota 2 International event. Dota 2 is an online multiplayer game I play. It has a huge event for its' international tournament called "The International". Each year this happens in different cities of different countries. Since I saw the first international broadcast from the you tube, all I wanted was to go and watch The International.

They have amazing events organized for the fans coming from all over the world. They have cosplay competitions, the all star match, a store that sells Dota 2 cosmetic items and etc.
I want my best Dota buddies to be there with me. The event has massive audience and the organizers do everything possible to make the event interactive with the fans. They uses latest technologies like holograms to display the in game special events and the lighting and stage setup is awesome. Even watching from the home makes us go crazy when those effects kicks in. I think it would be a great trip to go and I wish I would get the opportunity to fulfill it within my lifetime.

The person I want to be

"The person I want to be?" is a complicated question. Because sometimes even though we envy a persons certain aspect of life (e.g. : professional success)  there other aspects might not be that good to follow. Therefore most of the times for that question there might not be a definite single answer. Maybe it can be combinations of people. However, I'd say the person I want to be is Elon Musk.

Elon Musk is a role model for students all around the world. Mostly for the science guys. He is a very successful entrepreneur, visionary and an inventor who build his empire from the scratch. His inventions includes,

  • Tesla motors
  • SpaceX
  • Paypal
  • Hyperloop
  • Zip2
  • Solarcity
  • Electric jet

However great these inventions are that is not the reason I want to become a person like him. I want to be like him because I want be able to think like him. All the countries had there own space programs and everyone thought a private space company is a joke, a failure. But that did not stops Elon Musk. he disregarded what other people said and he succeeded. I want to be a person like that. Ignore the discouragements from the other people and go to the goal. His goals were practical. He built the worlds biggest online money transferring company just because he did not have a way to transfer his money online. Also even after he build his company successfully, he did not end there. He built more companies that are not even in the same field. A space program, automatic electric cars and solar panels? That motivation is what I want. I want to be a person like Elon Musk.

Learnings from the Personality Progress Development Program

Personality Progress Development Program is a very valuable lecture we had on our 1st and 2nd year University life. It  is targeted to improve our personal behaviors and abilities to match the industrial environment as well as our social environment.

There are lot of things we learned in the past years of Personality Progress Development Program. We learned how to work as a team. Most of our PPD activities were team based so we got to work in teams in order to achieve given target. In this activities we learned how to divide the work load between team members, how to effectively use the available resources, how to communicate with team members and etc. Not only that we also got the chance to learn leadership skills because one of us had to be the leader in the activities.

We also got he chance to learn from great personalities in the industry about how they start and how they grew their companies to current success. It was a great learning point for the entrepreneurs between us. We also got chance to work with industrial people. One time we got to learn the table etiquette from a very prestige hotel and we also got the chance to visit there and practice them.

Therefore I think Personality Progress Development Program is a very important aspect of our degree program.

The biggest challenge I ever face in my life

In our day to day life we undergo different challengers. Most of them are quite easy but some of them are very difficult. In our lives we get few challenging moments, few very important challenging moments that decides the way of our lives lead. The decisions we make in these kind of challenging moments has to be very logical in order to lead our lives to a greater direction.

For me the biggest challenge I ever faced would have to be passing my GCE A/L examination. Actually the passing part was easy. But I had to get good grades so that I will get the chance to learn Engineering. I was never a guy for the studies. I only studied what I felt interesting. Therefore I did not work hard as I should have been for my exams. That decision changed my whole life.

I always loved playing digital games. I spend lot of time playing games (waste lot of time, according to my family). Sometimes I wonder whether it has become the priority number one in my life.  However, because I did not study well for the exams I did not get the chance to learn engineering. But I did get the chance to join Software Engineering, Univeristy of Kelaniya, where I learn to build games for myself. That was "The dream" for me, play and develop games at the same time.

So that biggest challenging moment of my life, A/L examination I think my decision turns out alright because life has been awesome for me ever since.
